about
My wife and I were dining with some dear friends, one of whom is from Portugal. I had roasted a whole chicken and I was clearing the table when this friend said to me, "Where are you going with that (as I was taking away the carcass)? There's good meat there! You know, every Portugese mother teaches their children never to waste a single bit of the chicken! It has so many uses!" He then proceeded to teach us how to crack open the bones, suck out the marrow and even showed us secret bits of meat that we didn't even know existed! The carnage was all very entertaining.
I thought, "What a wonderful metaphor for life - don't waste a single moment! Experience every ounce. Carpe diem." It inspired this rowdy, bluesy song. We recorded it during our 'Censor the Silence' sessions but it didn't make the final sequencing on the album. Delighted that you can enjoy it now!
lyrics
Yeah, my Portuguese friend
You might think it’s absurd
He likes the bits and the ends
He eats the carcass of the bird
Says it’s the marrow of life
Holds it high like a chalice of wine
“The foundation of the earth!”
“This, the carcass of the bird!”
King Solomon said
Drink and feast ‘til the end
There are stupid regrets
And there is useless knowledge
Can I give some advice?
Go home and make love to your wife
Bet you’ll be undisturbed
Like the carcass of the bird
Caught me feelin’ up a raw material
Pullin’ gold from the dirt
Turn it up, break the nob, crank the gain on your stereo
Let them hear you scream out to the ends of the earth
“Don’t waste the carcass of the bird!”
“Don’t waste the carcass of the bird!”
Glory is man fully alive
Glory is man fully alive
Glory Is man fully alive
We’re gonna party ‘til we die!
We’re gonna party ‘til we die!
Carpe diem in the rain
and in the desert of the night
Don’t waste the carcass of the bird
Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo
Don’t waste the carcass of the bird
Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo
